About the role
Our client is a growing social enterprise working toward a world where no good food goes to waste. AI has sped up their development process, so they are bringing on a half-time Test Automation Engineer to focus on testing and test automation across their web and mobile (iOS and Android) platforms.
You will spend most of your time building and maintaining test automation frameworks and quality practices that support fast, safe, and repeatable releases. The rest of your time goes to improving CI/CD pipelines and the overall developer experience. You will work closely with engineering, product, QA, and DevOps to build continuous testing into how the team ships.
Engagement details
Half-time contractor role
Initial 6-month contract, with potential for extension
What you'll do
Design, build, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks for web applications (Vue.js and Flutter Web), mobile applications (Flutter iOS and Android), and API and backend services
Use AI agents and agentic workflows to speed up development and test automation
Validate critical end-to-end marketplace workflows and make sure the platform's data domain and business flows are correct
Work with the QA team on test data and environment management. This includes creating realistic test data strategies for complex marketplace scenarios, building reusable scripts and tooling to provision and maintain test data, and keeping environments ready and consistently configured
Integrate automated tests and supporting scripts into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines so they run reliably and efficiently as part of delivery
Improve developer experience by simplifying local and CI workflows, reducing setup friction, and making environments more consistent
Monitor pipeline health, test stability, and execution performance, and find and fix flaky tests, bottlenecks, and regressions before they become problems
Track and report quality and delivery metrics, and maintain dashboards and execution reports that give stakeholders clear, actionable insight ahead of releases
Take part in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
Contribute to application development in PHP (Laravel) and Vue.js as capacity permits
What you bring
At least 2 years of end-to-end software testing experience across web and mobile applications, with a proven ability to design and build automation frameworks
Hands-on experience with Claude Code and/or Codex
Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Playwright
Strong working knowledge of Azure DevOps, including pipelines, environments, and resource configuration
Experience testing APIs and distributed systems
Proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript, with familiarity with Node.js
Solid understanding of browser behaviour, HTML (DOM), and CSS
Proven experience with modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel, and a good understanding of the Vue.js framework and ecosystem
Experience with GitHub and MySQL, and with building modular applications with unit tests
Strong understanding of CI/CD principles and pipeline optimisation
Strong plus
A good understanding of AI skills, agent orchestration, hooks, MCP integrations, and agentic workflows, and the ability to use them to make testing more efficient
A Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
Who you are
Flexible and adaptive, with a creative problem-solving mindset
Able to analyse complex problems and design pragmatic solutions
Detail-oriented, with strong communication skills
Proactive and focused on continuous improvement
Motivated by mission-driven work
ATTENTION UPON DROPPING YOUR APPLICATION:
Please send an email right away to virtuous@tunga.io with the subject 'Test Automation Engineer - Your Name'. In it, share concrete examples of test automation and CI/CD work you have done in production.
We're specifically interested in:
Test automation frameworks you have designed or built: the stack (Playwright or similar), what they covered (web, mobile, API), and the architecture decisions you made
How you have used Claude Code and/or Codex in your testing or development work: what you automated, how you set it up (skills, hooks, MCP integrations, agent orchestration), and what it changed for your team
Mobile test automation, especially for Flutter apps on iOS and Android: the tools you used and how you handled platform differences
Azure DevOps pipelines you have built or improved: how you integrated tests, and how you dealt with flaky tests, slow runs, or bottlenecks
Test data and environment management: how you provisioned and maintained realistic test data for complex business flows
Any hands-on development in PHP (Laravel) or Vue.js beyond writing tests
Please point us to production work, not tutorials, side experiments, or course projects.
A short paragraph per example is enough: what you built, your specific role, the scale or context it operated in, and one or two concrete decisions you made. Links to repos, demos, or write-ups are welcome where you can share them.
